Julia Kim is an Independent Casting Director in Los Angeles. She casts films + commercials and has a passion for unearthing new talent + creating chemistry that shines on set and on-screen.
Film-wise: Sweat Pea, written and Directed by Pixar’s Emma Coats, is a delightful love story of two outlaws set against a Western backdrop. Starlet, by New York based filmmaker Sean Baker is in post production. It’s a unique film about an unlikely relationship between an eighty-year old reclusive woman and a twenty-something adult film star. The Heart of Christmas is based on a true story about a young couple grappling with their child’s rare form of leukemia and the inspirational way in which they handled it. The film’s debut was this Christmas on the GMC Network. Trattoria is in post production and Stranded: a story about surfing, murder and revenge is also in development.
Commercially: Julia recently completed commercials for the Dish Network and VW South Africa. Before that, a Summer spot for McDonald’s, a Happy Honda Days campaign, commercials for Boost Mobile, Martell Cognac, Canon, Chevy and Spike TV. In addition to becoming a favorite resource of top U.S. ad agencies, production companies, directors and producers, Julia has quickly established herself as LA’s go-to-gal for productions based in Japan, Korea and India.

Additional highlights: Shit Year, written and directed by Cam Archer, starring Ellen Barkin, Melora Walters, Theresa Randle + newcomer Luke Grimes. The film Premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival – Director’s Fortnight.
Before all this: Julia cast Two Mothers, written and directed by Jeremiah Birnbaum. It stars John Heard, Dendrie Taylor (Sons of Anarchy) and Faran Tahir (Ironman) + Knots, directed by Michael Kang and starring Illeana Douglas and Sung Kang. She also cast the short film, Twirl. Before that, Wassup Rockers, directed by Larry Clark. This film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was an opening night selection at Slamdance. Julia also cast Wild Tigers I Have Known, directed by Cam Archer and executive produced by Gus Van Sant and Scott Rudin. This film made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Additional highlights include My Bollywood Bride, which premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival, But I’m a Cheerleader and Two Family House – which won an Audience Prize at Sundance.
Additionally, Julia cast a reality show for the Asian Cable Network and is actively involved in casting workshops.
